VOLLEYBALL – MUHARRAQ Club and senior men’s volleyball national team star Mohammed Omar received an individual accolade for his performance in the 44th Arab Club Men’s Volleyball Championship in Tunis, Tunisia.
Omar was selected to the Team of the Tournament as the Best Middle Blocker. He received a special trophy for the honour during the competition’s awarding and closing ceremony, when Muharraq’s team members were also presented with their bronze medals.
The kingdom’s representatives finished third overall in the Arab Volleyball Association (AVA) event following a three-set sweep of Asswehly SC from Libya on Saturday night.
Police SC from Qatar won the gold medals after defeating home side Etoile Sportive du Sahel in four sets in a hotly contested final.
After the two matches, the prize presentation took place, attended by AVA president Shaikh Ali bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, who is also the Bahrain Volleyball Association president.
By stepping onto the podium, Muharraq improved on the ninth-place classification achieved by fellow-Bahraini outfit Dar Kulaib in the competition’s previous edition, held last year in Doha, Qatar.
