Cricket – His Majesty King Hamad’s humanitarian work and youth affairs representative and Supreme Council for Youth and Sports (SCYS) chairman Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa received former international cricketer and ex-Pakistan national team captain Shahid Afridi.
Present were Supreme Council for Environment vice-president, Rashid Equestrian and Horseracing Club High Committee deputy chairman, and SCYS member Shaikh Faisal bin Rashid Al Khalifa, and SCYS secretary general Ayman bin Tawfiq Al Moayyed.
The meeting reviewed the progress of cricket in Bahrain and discussed means to further develop the sport and enhance its international presence.
Shaikh Nasser emphasised continued efforts to attract international expertise and shape the future of the game nationally, noting that this approach supports talent development and promotes the sport.
Shaikh Nasser commended Afridi’s role in motivating young people, noting that the kingdom is working to build an integrated sports environment that attracts expertise and strengthens international co-operation.
The meeting also reviewed cricket programmes in Bahrain and development plans for the sport, including opportunities for co-operation with international experts.
Shaikh Nasser and Afridi also visited the Victorious cricket team, where Afridi was briefed on their training programmes, stages of player development, and efforts to raise performance levels and build sustainable teams.
Afridi expressed appreciation for the efforts of Shaikh Nasser in developing the sports sector in Bahrain, particularly cricket, and expressed keenness to support the sport’s development.
