Central bank governors from the GCC met in Manama yesterday to discuss deepening financial co-operation, focusing on banking supervision, payment systems and cybersecurity.
The 86th meeting of the Committee of Central Bank Governors, chaired by Central Bank of Bahrain Governor Khalid Humaidan, comes as Bahrain holds the chairmanship of the GCC’s 46th session.
The committee reviewed recommendations regarding the oversight of the regional banking sector and the integration of financial technologies (fintech) across member states.
Talks also covered the exchange of cybersecurity intelligence to protect the Gulf’s financial infrastructure, alongside ongoing regional efforts to combat money laundering and terrorist financing.
The high-level meeting was attended by GCC secretary general Jassim Al Budaiwi and the governors of the central banks of the six-member bloc.
