YouTuber and wrestler Logan Paul has sold one of the rarest trading cards in existence, setting a new Guinness World Record in the process. Paul sold his PSA 10-graded Pikachu Illustrator card for an astonishing $16.5 million at auction, making it the most expensive trading card ever sold.
Paul previously made history when he purchased the card in 2021 for $5.2 million, which at the time was the highest price paid for a Pokémon card in a private sale. This time, the influencer sold his ‘prized possession’ via the online auction house Goldin.
Following the sale, Paul placed the card, which is housed in a custom diamond-encrusted case on a matching chain, around the neck of the winning bidder. The Pikachu Illustrator is widely considered the ‘holy grail’ of Pokémon collectables, as it was designed by Atsuko Nishida, the original creator of Pikachu. Only 39 of these cards were distributed in 1998, and this remains the only one to have ever been awarded a PSA 10 grade.
