A man in the Sicilian town of Catania has been accused of training his dog to dump bags of rubbish by the roadside in an attempt to evade surveillance cameras installed to combat littering.
Catania's municipality released footage on social media showing a small dog trotting along a road at night with a bag of rubbish in its mouth, before neatly dropping it on the verge. Authorities stated the dog had been trained to spare the owner from being filmed illegally dumping his waste.
Officials condemned the act, stating that it was "as cunning as it is doubly wrong – polluting the city while attempting to sidestep the rules by exploiting an unwitting pet." The man has reportedly been identified and fined for his actions.
