A meeting to discuss mechanisms for joint co‑ordination and to ensure readiness in providing relief and humanitarian assistance amid current regional circumstances is scheduled for Sunday.
Convened by a regional delegation of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, the meeting aims to enhance collaborative efforts in a way that supports Bahrain’s noble humanitarian objectives.
The Bahrain Red Crescent Society (BRCS) will participate alongside its GCC counterparts.
BRCS secretary general Mubarak Al Hadi affirmed that the society has placed all its capabilities and field expertise on the highest level of readiness to meet current humanitarian requirements.
“The meeting is consultative and co-ordinative, aimed at reaching consensus and preparing associations for their roles through an open discussion, with the participation of the Arab Red Crescent and Red Cross Organisation,” Mr Al Hadi told the GDN.
“The challenges that our region faces now require an unprecedented level of solidarity among all parties involved in relief work.
“We are not only seeking to provide logistical and emergency medical support, but also to build a comprehensive volunteer system capable of responding immediately to any emergency situation.
“This will be done in full co-ordination with our partners in the GCC countries and international organisations. This will reaffirm and strengthen the role and standing of the BRCS in humanitarian work.”
BRCS is mobilising its volunteers and resources through the ongoing ‘Bahrain is Well Because You Are Its People’ campaign, aimed at supporting national efforts amid the current developments.
This initiative builds upon the society’s accumulated experience and its trained staff and volunteers in the fields of first aid, psychosocial support, relief work, and humanitarian assistance.
The volunteering opportunities available cover a number of vital specialisations.
At the forefront will be volunteers for the health sector, to support medical and ambulance teams.
There will also be volunteers for the engineering sector, to provide technical assistance and site assessments.
Volunteers in the logistics sector will work to secure supplies and organise transport and storage operations.
Opportunities also extend to administrative and supervisory fields, as well as other specialisations that may be required depending on developments in the situation.
The GDN reported yesterday that more than 20,000 people registered within the first hours of opening volunteer registration for the ‘Bahrain Is Well Because You Are Its People’ campaign through the National Volunteer Platform (volunteer.gov.bh).
According to recorded statistics, the total number of registered volunteers has exceeded 20,000, including more than 14,000 Bahraini citizens and 5,000 residents, in addition to the participation of more than 500 companies and institutions.
The National Volunteering Platform is one of the winning projects within the government innovation competition, Fikra, launched by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister.
Individuals and entities such as civil societies and organisations looking to register can do so on the platform by filling in the required information such as full name, nationality, profession, etc.
