A specialised training workshop focused on enhancing psychological crisis‑response skills brought together volunteers, healthcare professionals and individuals interested in providing mental health support during emergencies.
The workshop, titled ‘Psychological First Aid’, was organised by the Bahrain Red Crescent Society (BRCS) and led by Health Awareness and Blood Bank Committees head Maysar Sabriat.
Held via video conference, the session introduced participants to the key principles of Psychological First Aid (PFA) and provided structured approaches for assisting individuals experiencing acute stress or psychological trauma during emergencies.
The training focused on several strategic areas, including the core concepts of PFA and practical techniques for supporting people affected by crises.
Participants also explored effective communication and active listening methods designed to help reduce distress among survivors, while gaining insight into the natural behavioural responses individuals may exhibit when confronted with traumatic events.
The initiative forms part of BRCS’s ongoing efforts to equip its volunteers with the skills needed to respond effectively to a wide range of humanitarian situations.
This training is considered especially important amid the current regional climate, where rapid and effective psychological support is often required alongside physical and medical assistance.
