Family, friends and the whole of Bahrain are mourning the death of Bahraini Sara Dashti, who was killed yesterday when an Iranian attack targeted a building in the Seef District.
The 29-year-old is believed to have been enjoying refreshments at a coffee shop below an office tower when the strike happened and was killed by falling debris. The strike also injured eight others.
The GDN visited the site of the attack yesterday morning, finding glass debris from the attack spread across the area. The drone decimated one of the upper floors of the building.
Interior Ministry personnel cordoned off the area to ensure public safety as broken wires and metal pieces from the building’s facade lay scattered on the floor.
A number of windows in surrounding buildings were shattered too by the force of the impact.
A resident at a nearby apartments complex told the GDN that there had been a sudden huge explosion and innocent bystanders in the area had no time to escape. Cars in the vicinity were also damaged.
This is the second confirmed fatality since the Iranian attacks began last week. The first death was Bangladeshi national Abul Mohsin Tareq who was killed on March 2 in a fire on a foreign vessel, after debris from an intercepted missile fell at Salman Industrial City.
Ms Dashti was buried yesterday afternoon at the Hoora Cemetery and the mourning will take place at Matam Imam Redha in Tashan today and until Friday.
Amongst those heartbroken by her tragic death are her father Abdulmajeed and her siblings Hussain, Hassan, Ali and Sakeena.
As of last night, around 50 individuals have been injured and two killed in the Iranian attacks on Bahrain.
