CYCLING – TEAM Bahrain Victorious ranked a solid 14th yesterday in the team time trial third stage of the 84th Paris-Nice race in France.
The squad consisted of Lenny Martinez, Damiano Caruso, Robert Stannard, Kamil Gradek, Phil Bauhaus, Nikias Arndt, and Mathijs Paasschens. They completed the 23.5-kilometre course distance in 27 minutes 44.280 seconds – a minute and four seconds behind winners Ineos Grandiers. Lidl-Trek were the runners-up while Decathlon CMA CGM Team came third overall amongst the 22 competing squads.
Following the stage, Martinez and Caruso became the highest-ranked Bahrain Victorious riders in the general classification in 34th and 35th, respectively. Martinez made a massive leap of 39 places on the standings, while Caruso improved 22 spots.
Martinez also climbed nine places on the best young rider rankings to 16th, while Bahrain Victorious rose two positions to 13th overall in the teams’ standings after three stages.
The eight-leg race continues today with stage four, to be held across 195km between the communes of Bourges and Uchon.
The complete distance of the Paris-Nice race is 1,229.9km and it is scheduled to conclude on Sunday.
