Posting images and videos that ‘could incite panic or threaten national security’ could land social media users in jail for up to 10 years, the Interior Ministry has warned.
Spreading news and disinformation that has the potential to ‘harm national preparations’ is a criminal offence, the General Directorate of Anti-Corruption and Economic and Electronic Security stated.
Since sensationalised reports, falsely attributed to come from official sources, are circulating, the directorate has urged public scepticism when viewing social media content and cautioned against sharing such posts, so as not to cause anxiety or mislead the public.
