The impact of the Iranian attacks is being felt across Bahrain, with disruptions ranging from exam and event cancellations to expatriates travelling across the causeway to catch flights home.
Flight operations at Bahrain International Airport continue to be suspended due to the closure of the airspace.
“Operations will resume once airspace reopens safely,” the airport noted, in its daily update. “Passengers should check with their airline for updates.”
Meanwhile, Gulf Air expanded its temporary operations via King Fahad International Airport in Dammam and commercial flights to London, Mumbai and Bangkok will be available for booking until and including March 22.
In addition, Grade 12 board examinations for Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) schools scheduled between March 16 and April 10 in Bahrain, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Qatar, Kuwait and Iran have been cancelled.
The board further clarified that previously rescheduled examinations will also be cancelled.
The GDN had previously reported that CBSE Grade 10 board examinations scheduled until March 11 had also been cancelled.
The mode of declaration of results for Grade 10 and Grade 12 candidates in the affected countries will be announced at a later time.
Meanwhile, the Bahrain Keraleeya Samajam (BKS) announced that its first batch of passengers from Bahrain flew out to Kochi yesterday from Dammam, after being transported by road the previous evening.
“This is the first chartered flight of its kind organised by the BKS to assist hapless Indians stranded in Bahrain due to the ongoing West Asia crisis,” BKS president P V Radhakrishna Pillai noted in a statement.
The 192 passengers reached Kochi yesterday at 6.55pm local time by Gulf Air flight GF2270.
BKS has chartered three more flights to Kochi today, tomorrow and on March 20 to facilitate the safe return of those wishing to travel to India.
Meanwhile, world-renowned circus company Cirque du Soleil’s performance of ‘Corteo’, which was set to enthrall audiences during the kingdom’s Eid Al Fitr celebrations, has been cancelled.
The show was set to be staged at Exhibition World Bahrain from March 22 to 28, however, yesterday, those who had purchased tickets saw refunds from Platinumlist appearing in their bank accounts and the event page on the booking website showed that the event had been cancelled.
