Investment in developing digital infrastructure and adopting smart city transformation strategies is key to Bahrain’s modernisation process, Deputy Prime Minister Shaikh Khalid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa said when he inaugurated the Bahrain Smart Cities Summit 2026.
He added that effective integration of government work and strong partnership with the private sector form a strategic path to move from planning to practical implementation of future cities.
The use of innovative solutions supports comprehensive sustainability efforts and provides a developed environment that meets citizens’ aspirations and supports economic growth, Shaikh Khalid emphasised.
On the sidelines of the summit, he also opened the accompanying exhibition, where he viewed the government and private sector pavilions and their smart transformation initiatives and solutions.
The Deputy Prime Minister said that the continued modernisation of the government system and the use of modern technology in infrastructure sectors, led by His Majesty King Hamad, and under the directives of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, are essential to ensuring resource sustainability and delivering high-efficiency services that meet sustainable development requirements.
He noted the importance of maintaining progress and building on achievements through quality initiatives in urban planning and digital transformation, placing citizens’ interests and improved quality of life at the heart of priorities.
Shaikh Khalid expressed appreciation to the Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture Ministry for organising this annual event, noting that joint efforts, smart solutions and teamwork under ‘Team Bahrain’ will help translate strategic visions into tangible reality. He wished the organisers and participants success in reaching outcomes that serve the nation and citizens.
