BASKETBALL – Defending champions Muharraq and title contenders Al Najma will both be looking to extend their advantage in their best-of-five match-ups tonight in the Golden Square semi-finals of the 2025-26 Zain Bahrain Basketball League.
Muharraq will be taking on Al Ahli in game two of their series, scheduled for a 6pm start, to be followed at 8pm by Najma locking horns with Manama in their second game.
The games will be played at Khalifa Sports City Arena in Isa Town with no fans in attendance.
Muharraq took a 1-0 lead after outclassing Ahli 90-73 in their opening clash, while Najma stunned Manama 78-76 with a late game-winner from Donovan Smith.
Following this evening’s fixtures, action will resume with game three for both series on Wednesday.
Games four and five, if necessary, are then slated for April 4 and April 7, respectively.
All fixtures are set to be held at the same venue.
The winners of the Golden Square will then march forward to the championship series, also to be played best-of-five games.
Should the two semis be decided by game three, the finals will begin on April 5.
If they are completed by game four, then the finals will get underway on April 8.
Muharraq clinched the 2024-25 Zain Bahrain Basketball League title following a hard-earned 3-2 triumph over Ahli in last year’s finals.
It was their fourth-ever national crown – still far from the record number of titles held by Manama of 25, followed by Ahli with 20. Najma are looking to secure their maiden championship.
