HANDBALL – DEFENDING champions Al Najma maintained their undefeated record in the 2025-26 Khalid Bin Hamad Bahrain Handball League last night with a tight 33-30 victory over a battling Al Dair.
The gameweek 19 contest was played at the Bahrain Handball Federation Arena in Um Al Hassam Sports Complex, with no fans in attendance.
After leading 20-15 at the half, Najma needed to overcome a spirited Dair challenge over the final 30 minutes, where they cut the deficit to just two goals.
Najma eventually did enough to eke out the win, which was their 16th of the current season to go along with one draw. They improved to 50 points atop the league table and are already assured of a place in the Golden Square semi-finals.
Dair suffered their ninth loss as they suffered a major blow to their hopes of making the final four. They went to 33 points – four behind current fourth-placed side Babrar.
Also already through to the semis are Al Ahli, who overcame Al Tadhamun 34-29 in yesterday’s other fixture at the same venue.
The contest was tied at 17-apiece at the break until Ahli came alive after the re-start to seal the triumph – their 15th of the current campaign – helping them rise to 47 points for second place on the standings.
Tadhamun are also vying for a seat in the Golden Square but remained a point behind Dair in sixth following their ninth loss last night.
