As we reflect on a month that has tested the resilience of the Kingdom of Bahrain and the stability of the entire Gulf region and beyond, I would like to once again express Germany’s firm support for our partners in the region and especially in Manama.
The events of the past month, marked by an unprecedented wave of ballistic missile and drone attacks from the ruthless regime in Tehran, represent not only a threat to the sovereignty of the Kingdom but are a direct challenge to the international order and the safety of innocent civilians. These strikes targeting civilians and vital civilian and economic infrastructure, including airports, ports, hotels, service sites, energy and industrial facilities, food security services, residential areas, and diplomatic and consular missions, are clear violations of international humanitarian law. There is no justification for attacking infrastructure that provides water, energy, education and livelihoods.
The Federal Republic of Germany stands alongside its partners in the GCC in condemning these blatant acts of aggression. The strength of our bilateral bond was recently reaffirmed at the highest level. German Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier held a significant telephone discussion with His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa to review the security situation in the Middle East and to expressed Germany’s firm solidarity with the Kingdom, where he underscored Germany’s unwavering support for Bahrain’s sovereignty and the necessary measures taken to preserve its national stability.
Germany highly commends the Bahraini delegation’s exceptional efforts at the UN Security Council. We remain firmly committed to UN Resolution 2817 (2026), which demands an immediate end to threats against neighbouring states, upholds state sovereignty and maintains international peace and security.
The current crisis serves as a stark reminder that regional security is indivisible. Germany will continue to advocate for a diplomatic solution that holds aggressors accountable while ensuring that the Kingdom of Bahrain can pursue its path of development and peaceful coexistence without the shadow of foreign interference. Iran’s hostile practices in restricting international navigation in the Strait of Hormuz is a serious threat to energy supplies and global trade and a clear violation of international law, including the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea.
Concluding, I wish to underscore that the world has witnessed the true character of Bahrain. I am deeply impressed by the resilience of the Bahraini people, who have upheld their unity and strong national spirit in the face of persistent threats. The safety and stability of the Kingdom are a testament to the exceptional professionalism and dedication of its protectors. The Bahrain Defence Force (BDF) has demonstrated world-class capability, successfully intercepting numerous ballistic missiles and drones, thereby saving countless lives. At the same time, the Ministry of Interior (MOI), together with Civil Defence and security teams, has worked tirelessly on the ground to ensure that order and public safety prevail.
As a resident of this beautiful Kingdom myself, my thoughts are with every family during these restless days and nights. Please stay safe, look after one another, and know that Germany stands with you, today and in the future.
Henning Simon,
German Ambassador to Bahrain
