Iranian drones hit two industrial facilities in Bahrain yesterday morning, resulting in material damage and no casualties.
Bapco Energies and Gulf Petrochemical Industries Company (GPIC) confirmed that attacks at their facilities resulted in fires which have been fully extinguished.
Bapco Energies noted that the hostile Iranian drone attack targeted one of its storage facilities in the early hours of yesterday morning, resulting in a tank blaze.
“The fire has been fully extinguished, and the situation is under control,” the company added in a statement. “Damages are currently being assessed and evaluated. No injuries have been reported. The safety of our employees remains a top priority.”
Meanwhile, GPIC revealed that a number of its operational units were attacked by Iranian drones, triggering a series of fires. They were also fully extinguished and the situation remains under control. Again, no casualties were reported.
“Damage assessment teams have been on the ground to determine the full extent of the impact,” GPIC added “Emergency response teams were deployed immediately, operating in close coordination with Civil Defence units and relevant government authorities, to contain the incident and secure the facility.”
Last month, Bapco Energies served notice of force majeure on its group operations, which have been affected by the on-going regional conflict in the Middle East and repeated attacks on its refinery facility in Ma’ameer.
The company had clarified at the time that all local market needs are fully secured according to the proactive plans in place, ensuring the continuity of supplies and meeting local demand without impact.
Force majeure (French for ‘greater force’) is a contractual clause freeing parties from liability when extraordinary, unforeseeable events such as war or natural disasters prevent a company from fulfilling obligations due to circumstances beyond control.
