MOTORSPORT – BAHRAINI-British motor racing team 2 Seas Motorsport battled for a podium in class yesterday while securing a place in the overall top 10 in the season-opening round of the 2026 British GT Championship.
The pair of Aaron Walker and Andrew Gilbert steered 2 Seas’ #15 Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo to fourth place in the GT3 Silver-Am category while finishing eighth amongst 28 cars that started the three-hour Silverstone 500 at Silverstone Circuit in the UK.
Unfortunately for 2 Seas, their #15 contender was the only one of their three-car entry to reach the chequered flag, as the #1 Mercedes-AMG driven by last year’s GT3 drivers’ champions Charles Dawson and Kiern Jewiss – who were making a one-off appearance in the British GT season over the weekend – was forced to retire, as was 2 Seas’ #18 challenger of Kevin Tse and Ben Green.
The teammates made contact at the very first turn of lap one when Tse hit Dawson, who spun off the track. Tse suffered significant damage and needed to stop in a gravel trap trackside and retire from the race. Dawson pitted immediately and they were able to return to action for 16 laps, but were also eventually required to call it a day early.
Walker and Gilbert carried on and made a strong push over the remainder of the endurance event. They completed 71 laps over the three-hour duration and were only 21.791 seconds behind overall winners Yasser Shahin and Garnet Patterson, competing in Optimum Motorsport’s #3 McLaren 720S GT3 Evo, also in the Silver-Am class.
Walker and Gilbert improved six places at the finish from their starting position in 14th on the grid.
The British GT’s 2026 campaign returns to action for rounds two and three at Oulton Park from May 23 to 25. Round four is then set for June 20 and 21 at Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium, rounds five and six on August 15 and 16 at Snetterton Circuit, round seven on September 5 and 6 at Donington Park, and then round eight on September 26 and 27 at Brands Hatch.
