Young students at the Al Hidd Primary School for Boys are being given a hands-on introduction to journalism and communication through a special educational initiative designed to spark their interest in media and storytelling.
During the current academic year, 15 students have taken part in continuous training and practical activities designed to nurture and develop their talents across a range of media fields.
The Sada Al Hidd initiative forms part of the Education Ministry’s wider efforts to ensure public schools play an active role in discovering, refining and developing students’ talents across a variety of fields, treating gifted students as a national asset and added value to the kingdom.
Several students at the school produced purposeful and varied content that highlighted their growing knowledge, confidence and public speaking abilities.
Their activities included covering school events, conducting Press interviews both inside and outside the school, preparing the school newsletter, presenting radio segments, engaging in graphic design and more, under the supervision of a select group of teachers and administrators.
Bahraini grade three student Hassan Al Yaqoub, a member of the school radio team, spoke proudly about his experience, describing how the initiative had helped him overcome initial shyness.
“I now enjoy conducting interviews and feel proud of achievements I would not have dared to attempt before,” he said.
“I have gained the ability to speak confidently in front of an audience and express my ideas clearly.”
He added that the Sada Al Hidd (Echo of Al Hidd) committee formed at the school had played a key role in shaping students’ personalities.
“The committee has helped build our confidence and awareness, which is clearly reflected in our current skills,” he said.
The talented nine-year-old recently caught the attention of Education Minister Dr Mohammed Mubarak Juma, who praised him in a social media post and shared a photograph of the two together during a visit to the school.
“The promising young journalist was among the first students to arrive this morning,” the minister said, reflecting on his visit to observe the school’s media activities. “There is no doubt that he will one day achieve his goals and aspirations,” he added.
