Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture Minister Wael Al Mubarak yesterday inspected the King Hamad Street tree-planting project as part of the National Afforestation Plan.
He was accompanied by several officials, including MP Lulwa Al Romaihi, representative of the Southern Governorate constituency 10 and Southern Municipal Council chairman Abdulla Abdullatif; Hassan Al Dosari.
The minister affirmed that the progress achieved through agricultural initiatives in the kingdom reflects its ongoing commitment to sustainability and the preservation of natural resources. He noted that these efforts support the comprehensive development process led by His Majesty King Hamad. He also highlighted the directives of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, to expand afforestation projects across the governorates.
“Implementation of the National Afforestation Plan is progressing steadily and achieving tangible results across its various projects,” Mr Al Mubarak noted.
He commended the role of Shaikh Mohammed bin Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa in overseeing the plan’s implementation, which aims to double the number of trees in Bahrain from approximately 1.8 million to nearly 3.6m by 2035. The plan also includes a fourfold expansion of mangrove cultivation, in line with Bahrain’s environmental commitments under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.
“The King Hamad Street afforestation project is progressing according to schedule. The first phase includes the planting of 6,000 trees along a 27km stretch, while the second phase will see the planting of an additional 9,000 trees, contributing to increased vegetation cover and enhancing the urban landscape,” he added.
