GCC GAMES – BAHRAIN’S delegation at the upcoming fourth GCC Games, taking place tomorrow to May 22 in Doha, Qatar, will feature a distinguished presence for Bahraini women, the Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) has confirmed.
Fifty-one women athletes and officials will be a part of the kingdom’s squad, to be headed by BOC Arab and international relations head Maryam Mardana.
Their participation reflects the BOC’s commitment, alongside the Equal Opportunities and Gender Balance Sports Field Committee, to strengthening the presence of Bahraini women in various international sporting events.
Bahrain will participate with seven women’s teams in 3x3 basketball, athletics, taekwondo, archery, table tennis, shooting, and padel, while the official delegation also includes one media representative and three administrators who are women.
On this occasion, BOC board member and committee chairperson Shaikha Dr Hessa bint Khalid Al Khalifa expressed her sincere thanks and appreciation to Supreme Council for Youth and Sports first deputy chairman, General Sports Authority chairman, and BOC president Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa for his continued support in enhancing the role of women across all sporting fields, whether as leaders, athletes, administrators, or coaches.
Shaikha Dr Hessa praised the women who have been selected to represent the kingdom at the fourth GCC Games, expressing hope that their participation will result in positive outcomes for women’s sport.
She also expressed confidence in their ability to honour the reputation of Bahraini sport, given the distinguished athletes included in the squads and their notable sporting records and achievements.
She affirmed that the committee will continue to support and closely follow the women’s teams in the Qatari capital by providing all forms of assistance and backing to the athletes, expressing her hope that they will culminate in the winning of a number of medals and raising the kingdom’s flag high.
