An event to promote health awareness among pilgrims travelling for Haj pilgrimage later this month was held yesterday at the National Bank of Bahrain (NBB) Health Centre in Arad.
Titled ‘A Safe Haj Through Awareness’, the session was led by Primary Healthcare Centre dentist Fatima Al Jowder and organised by the NBB Change Ambassadors team in collaboration with the Al Mawasim Haj and Umrah Campaign.
It offered guidance on pilgrims’ safety and health during the rituals, while highlighting the importance of physical preparation to ensure a safe and reassured journey.
An awareness lecture titled ‘With a Reassured Heart, the Haj Journey Begins’ was also held by psychologist and educational consultant Taqwa Al Bitar. She highlighted the importance of psychological and spiritual preparation, focusing on fostering reassurance and tranquility among pilgrims ahead of the journey.
Meanwhile, Al Mawasim Haj and Umrah Campaign owner Jassim Abul praised the collaboration with the Change Ambassadors Team. He also reaffirmed the campaign’s commitment to delivering high-quality programmes that integrate health awareness with religious guidance to support pilgrims.
The event concluded with participants commending the guidance provided and underlining the importance of such sessions in enhancing readiness before travel.
The GDN reported yesterday that Bahraini pilgrims heading to Haj are being urged to prioritise their vaccinations immediately, with an official highlighting the importance of protection during the pilgrimage. Health Ministry acting head of disease control department Dr Basma Al Saffar said while most of the 4,625 pilgrims are up to date with immunisation, those who are not should visit their nearest health centre as soon as possible.
Saudi Arabia mandates proof of vaccination against Meningococcal Meningitis (ACWY) for all pilgrims at least 10 days before arrival. ACWY is mandatory for all pilgrims aged one year and older and is valid for five years.
Other mandatory vaccinations include Covid-19 with proof of completed doses. Visitors arriving from countries with high risk of Yellow Fever and polio will be required to show proof of vaccinations against the diseases.
Eid Al Adha is expected to begin on the evening of May 26 and will continue until May 29.
