Bahrain has set an example in the speed of response to damage inflicted on homes and infrastructure in the kingdom as a result of the recent Iranian attacks, said Housing and Urban Planning Minister Dr Amna Al Romaihi.
The kingdom is working according to an integrated mechanism to implement the directives of His Majesty King Hamad and the orders of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, to address the damage inflicted on citizens’ homes, she said.
The minister was participating in a discussion session on the regional and global impacts of the recent Iranian attacks on housing and urban planning during the World Urban Forum (WUF13) in Baku, Azerbaijan. It was jointly organised by the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) and the government of Azerbaijan.
In her speech, Dr Al Romaihi stressed that the Iranian attacks targeting residential areas constitute a flagrant violation of all international laws and norms, and a direct threat to the security and stability of societies.
She added that these attacks represent a challenge to international efforts aimed at implementing Goal 11 of the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals, which stipulates ‘making cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable’.
She highlighted the efforts of the Works Ministry and the Housing and Urban Planning Ministry to carry out repairs, compensate citizens for damage to their vehicles and property, and ensure the stability of affected citizens.
The minister noted the great national cohesion that accompanied the reconstruction efforts, praising the initiative of the National Volunteer Platform through the ‘Bahrain is fine… as long as you are its people’ campaign, and the contributions of the private sector.
