What started as a routine stop at a petrol station turned into an unforgettable day for a Missouri man who discovered that a lottery ticket he had forgotten in his pickup truck for months was worth $50,000.
The West Plains resident told Missouri Lottery officials that he purchased several tickets in February and left them in the console of his truck, where they remained unchecked for months.
"I purchased tickets in February, and I hadn't checked them," he said. "It was just one of those times where I felt, 'Well, I probably need to get them out of the console of my pickup.'"
While stopping at a local petrol station recently, the man decided to bring the tickets inside and scan them. To his surprise, a store clerk informed him that one of the tickets was a $50,000 winner from the 11 February Powerball drawing.
The player said he was stunned by the news, calling it the biggest lottery prize he has ever won after years of playing. The excitement was so overwhelming that he momentarily forgot why he had stopped at the station in the first place.
"I had paid for gas and even drove off and forgot to get my gas," he said.
The lucky winner said he plans to spend part of the prize money on his grandchildren, ensuring the unexpected windfall benefits the next generation as well.
The story serves as a light-hearted reminder that sometimes valuable treasures can be hiding in the most ordinary places — even in the console of a pickup truck.
