SAUDI Arabia has strongly condemned the Iranian attack on Bahrain.
Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud also reiterated his country’s backing for any measures Bahrain takes to ‘defend its security and stability’, during a phone call with His Majesty King Hamad yesterday.
Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman reaffirmed Saudi Arabia’s ‘full support and solidarity’ with Bahrain.
His Majesty expressed appreciation to the Saudi Crown Prince for his sincere sentiments and supportive positions, which reflect the depth of the historic and strategic relations between the two countries.
On Wednesday, Saudi Arabia’s foreign ministry condemned Iran’s attacks on Bahrain and Kuwait, warning that such attacks undermine efforts aimed at restoring stability in the region.
“Saudi Arabia condemns in the strongest terms the brutal Iranian aggression and the flagrant violation of sovereignty of Bahrain and Kuwait,” the foreign ministry said in a statement.
It added that the kingdom categorically rejects “these attacks that harm the sovereignty of brotherly Gulf states… and that undermine international efforts aimed at restoring security and stability to the region.”
Foreign Minister Dr Abdullatif Al Zayani yesterday received a telephone call from his Saudi counterpart Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud during which he expressed Saudi denunciation of the Iranian attack.
Prince Faisal wished Bahrain security, safety and stability.
Dr Al Zayani expressed his thanks and appreciation to him for his condemnation.
Dr Al Zayani also received a telephone call from Oman Foreign Minister Badr bin Hamad bin Hamoud Al Busaidi in which he expressed solidarity with Bahrain and its condemnation of the Iranian attack.
The Foreign Minister thanked Mr Al Busaidi for the condemnation and the expression of solidarity.
Gulf tensions flared again on Wednesday with fresh Iranian attacks on Bahrain and Kuwait.
The Bahrain Defence Force (BDF) General Command said later that its air defence systems succeeded in intercepting and destroying three missiles and several drones.
One person was killed and many were injured, however, when Kuwait International Airport was targeted by the same Iranian aggression.
US military carried out strikes near the Strait of Hormuz, with diplomacy to halt the war showing little sign of progress.
The incidents are the latest to test a shaky ceasefire.
US President Donald Trump, meanwhile, said that Washington did not need a deal with Iran to get enriched uranium from the country.
“We could get it right now. I don’t think they could stop us if we wanted, but there’s no reason to. It’s entombed,” he told reporters in the Oval Office.
Trump also said that he did not want to meet Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei.
But he added that if Washington and Tehran reached a deal, it was possible that the two would meet and added: “If it happened ... I’d be respectful”.
