BAHRAIN will continue to host the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) until at least 2036, Bahrain International Circuit (BIC) announced yesterday.
BIC has signed a long-term extension with the world’s premier endurance racing series. The kingdom has been a part of the WEC calendar since its inaugural campaign in 2012, and the race weekend has since become a favourite amongst both fans and participants.
BIC has hosted 14 WEC races to date, and Sakhir has been a regular venue for the final round of the season, crowning countless champions over the years.
“Our new contract with FIA WEC continues Bahrain’s long-term commitment to elite motorsport, and we are proud of our shared history with the pinnacle of endurance racing,” said BIC chief executive officer Shaikh Salman bin Isa Al Khalifa.
“In Bahrain, the event remains a major highlight of our racing season and we continue to see record crowds every year.
“We are therefore delighted that the spirit of Le Mans will continue in Bahrain through the 20th anniversary of the series and well beyond.”
Bahrain’s 2026 WEC weekend is scheduled for November 5 to 7 as the season’s eighth and final round.
The WEC also revealed yesterday its 2027 calendar, which is set to feature nine races. BIC will again stage the finale from November 4 to 6.
