Bahrain has received an outpouring of support from across the region and beyond after it came under treacherous Iranian attacks early yesterday morning.
The Bahrain Defence Force General Command said Iran continued its systematic hostile campaign through criminal missile and drone strikes targeting civilians in the kingdom.
Air defence systems were deployed to intercept and destroy the incoming aerial attacks.
Saudi Arabia and the UAE strongly condemned what they called the ‘blatant’ Iranian attacks on Bahrain.
In separate statements, their foreign ministries reaffirmed categorical rejection of the strikes, saying they violated international law and the UN Charter.
Both countries expressed full solidarity with the kingdom and their support for all measures to safeguard its security and stability.
GCC Secretary-General Jasem Al Budaiwi said the attacks posed a direct threat to the security and safety of citizens and residents in Bahrain and constituted a clear breach of international law and the UN Charter.
He added that they undermined international and regional efforts to establish security and peace and resolve the crisis.
The GCC affirmed its support for all measures taken by Bahrain to strengthen its security and protect the integrity of its territory.
Foreign Minister Dr Abdullatif Al Zayani received a call from Lebanon’s Foreign Affairs and Emigrants Minister, Youssef Rajji, who condemned the Iranian drone attacks and expressed Lebanon’s solidarity with Bahrain.
He stressed full support for all measures undertaken by Bahrain to safeguard its security, stability and people.
In a separate call, Canada’s Foreign Minister Anita Anand also expressed solidarity with the kingdom and stressed the importance of all parties respecting the ceasefire and working towards a just and lasting solution.
Dr Al Zayani thanked the ministers, saying their positions reflected the strength of relations between their countries and peoples.
Muslim World League secretary general and Organisation of Muslim Scholars chairman Dr Shaikh Mohammed bin Abdulkarim Al Issa described the attacks as violations of all religious values, international and humanitarian laws and norms, and as acts that undermine efforts to restore security and stability in the region.
The Foreign Ministry earlier issued a statement condemning the renewed Iranian attacks.
The ministry said Tehran’s actions were neither isolated nor incidental, but part of a deliberate and systematic pattern of aggression against Bahrain’s sovereignty.
Tehran’s continued defiance of the international community requires a firm response from the United Nations Security Council to convene an urgent session, it added.
The Security Council must fulfil its responsibilities by ensuring the implementation of Resolution 2817 (2026), halting the continued aggression and holding those responsible accountable, the ministry said.
The ministry underlined that the repeated aggression targets not only Bahrain but also the security of the GCC as a whole, in accordance with the principle underpinning the Gulf Joint Defence Agreement that an attack against one member state is an attack against all.
The Foreign Ministry emphasised the kingdom’s appreciation for Gulf solidarity and shared security.
It underscored its full and legitimate right to defend its sovereignty, security and territorial integrity by all means guaranteed under international law.
The ministry also held the Iranian regime fully responsible for any escalation resulting from the continuation of its attacks.
It separately expressed Bahrain’s strong condemnation of the renewed Iranian terrorist attacks against Kuwait, involving missiles and drones.
It stressed that the attacks constitute a flagrant violation of Kuwait’s sovereignty and security as well as a breach of international law.
The attacks also violate the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding and undermine efforts to de-escalate tensions and strengthen regional security and stability.
The ministry reaffirmed Bahrain’s solidarity with Kuwait and its complete support for all legitimate measures taken to safeguard its sovereignty and territorial integrity.
It commended the efficiency, vigilance and high readiness of Kuwait’s air defences in intercepting the hostile attacks.
The ministry reiterated Bahrain’s call for Iran to uphold its obligations under international law and relevant international resolutions and understandings, cease its attacks against the countries and peoples of the region, and ensure the security and safety of maritime navigation through the Strait of Hormuz.
