BASKETBALL – The Bahrain Basketball Association (BBA) announced yesterday the signing of veteran Greek-Slovenian tactician Slobodan Subotic as the new head coach of the senior men’s national team.
Subotic is taking over for the departed Georgios Vovoras, who left his post in May less than a year after his appointment.
Subotic has more than 30 years’ coaching experience.
The former shooting guard was previously at the helm of the national teams of Slovenia and Lebanon and of leading clubs in both countries as well as in Greece, Italy, Croatia, Montenegro, Tunisia, and Cyprus.
Subotic will be guiding Bahrain in a series of major tournaments in the coming months, including the first round of pre-qualifiers for the Fiba Asia Cup 2029, to be held in Dubai, the UAE, from August 24 to September 1; the 20th Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, from September 19 to October 4; and then, if qualified, the second round of Fiba Asia Cup 2029 pre-qualifiers, scheduled from November 23 to December 1 at a yet-to-be-determined host venue.
