GCC rail link and other key projects enhancing connectivity with other countries and providing more efficient and flexible transport options for goods and products across the region were on the agenda of a key meeting yesterday.
Transportation and Telecommunications Ministry Under-Secretary for Land Transport and Post Fatima Al Dhaen, Assistant Under-Secretary for Ports Affairs Mayas Al Agha, and Air Transport Affairs director Abdullah Al Qadhi participated in the Enhancing Logistics Integration among GCC States workshop, organised by the GCC General Secretariat.
The workshop was held at the GCC General Secretariat headquarters in Riyadh and opened with remarks by Assistant Secretary General for Economic and Development Affairs Khalid Ali Salem Al Sunaidi, followed by a comprehensive presentation by the General Secretariat outlining the project’s objectives and strategic goals.
It was organised in implementation of the decision issued at the 29th meeting of the GCC Ministerial Committee for Transport and Communications, held on June 17, to follow up on the directives of the GCC leaders issued during the 19th Consultative Meeting on April 28.
The directives focus on strengthening logistics integration among GCC member states, accelerating the implementation of the GCC railway project, enhancing connectivity with other countries, and providing more efficient and flexible transport options for goods and products across the region.
The workshop featured a series of discussion sessions. The first, attended by representatives of the GCC member states, examined the current state of regional logistics integration, reviewed relevant international experiences and best practices, and discussed strategic and economic developments and the expected economic impact of closer logistics integration.
