An alleged drug peddler was reported to authorities after a vigilant resident witnessed him stashing a dead drop behind a tree near his home in Jeblat Habshi.
The bystander confronted the defendant, and found that item hidden in the tree was a ‘roll’ containing a small quantity of powder, later identified as heroin.
The 21-year-old Pakistani suspect is on trial at the High Criminal Court for possessing heroin, synthetic cannabinoids (CBD oil), and methamphetamine (shabu) with intent to trade them.
He was also charged with possessing morphine for personal use, after traces of the opioid were detected in his urine. He denied the charges in court, although he admitted them initially to prosecutors.
The Bahraini witness’s suspicion was raised when he reportedly saw the defendant taking a photo of the tree with his phone, and he called the police, not letting the suspect leave the area.
According to police officers, the item stashed in the tree turned out to be 0.76gm of heroin. On the Pakistani man’s person, police said they found 67 more heroin rolls, weighing a total of 53.61gm, and five rolls of shabu 5.95gm.
In his residence in Umm Al Hassam, police found 56 rolls of heroin (59.44gm), 18 rolls of shabu (23.6gm), 33 A4 papers saturated with unregulated CBD oil, plus 46 capsules of an unspecified drug (320gm).
A total of 160 empty capsules were found, along with two scales and a single 0.46gm heroin joint.
On his phone, authorities found photos and videos of narcotic substances, along with photos of seemingly-random public spaces.
The Public Prosecution has asked judges to issue the maximum possible sentence in the case. A verdict will be declared by judges on July 28.
