The National Heart Centre, at the Royal Hospital, recently conducted five successful procedures to extract pacemaker electrodes via the veins.
The procedure, the first accomplishment of its kind in the Sultanate of Oman, underscores efforts undertaken by the National Heart Centre to offer specialised services and to localise advanced technologies in treating heart rhythm disorders.
The procedure was conducted during a training workshop held as part of the National Heart Centre's programme to develop specialised services and raise the efficiency of medical staff.
The extraction of pacemaker electrodes via the veins constitutes one of the most complex operations in the field of cardiac electrophysiology. It is conducted in conditions that require the extraction of pacemaker electrodes due to the inflammation or malfunctioning of the pacemaker electrodes or when the need arises to replace the electrodes.
The procedure calls for a high level of preparedness among medical teams to ensure the safety of patients and to achieve the best therapeutic outcomes.
