A new wave of Iranian drones and ballistic missiles attacks targeted Bahrain and Kuwait yesterday resulting in swift condemnation from home and abroad.
The General Command of the Bahrain Defence Force (BDF) said its air defence systems successfully intercepted and destroyed a number of ‘treacherous Iranian aerial attacks’ – further reiterating that all its services and units remain at the highest levels of readiness and full defensive preparedness.
The General Command added in a statement: “Iran continues its systematic hostile approach through missile and drone attacks targeting civilians in the kingdom.”
It urged members of the public to exercise caution regarding any unfamiliar or suspicious objects resulting from the assault and to avoid approaching or handling them.
It added that personnel of the Royal Field Engineering Unit remain on full alert to safely handle and neutralise such objects, ensuring the safety of all citizens and residents.
“The deliberate use of missiles and drones to target civilians and private property constitutes a violation of international humanitarian law,” said the BDF statement.
GCC secretary general Jasem Al Budaiwi also condemned and denounced in the strongest terms yesterday’s Iranian attacks targeting Bahrain and Kuwait, stating the latest aggression confirmed the continuation of Iran’s approach aimed at undermining international and regional efforts to establish security, peace and resolve the crisis.
“These attacks represent a blatant aggression and a flagrant violation of the sovereignty of both countries, a direct threat to the security, stability and safety of citizens and residents, and a grave breach of the principles of international law and the United Nations (UN) Charter,” said Mr Al Budaiwi.
Furthermore, he underlined the GCC’s full solidarity with Bahrain and Kuwait and its backing for all measures they may take to maintain their security and stability, as well as to protect their citizens and residents on their territories.
Similar sentiments were echoed by UAE’s presidential adviser Anwar Gargash who condemned the Iranian attacks on Saudi and Qatari commercial tankers in the Strait of Hormuz, and the repeated aggression against Bahrain and Kuwait, indicating Tehran appeared unable to commit to de-escalation.
EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas said on X the exchanges of fire ‘complicate already fraught talks to end the war. Iran’s attacks on Bahrain and Kuwait are unacceptable’.
Meanwhile, a number of areas across Bahrain faced limited power outages early morning yesterday, the Electricity and Water Authority confirmed.
The agency added that specialised teams were deployed to restore services which were fully resolved. EWA also stressed the importance of obtaining information from official and approved sources.
