Bahrain has truly lost one of the best human beings of this era.
Dr P V Cheriyan was a person who constantly offered his helping hand and guidance to the public. He carried no hatred towards anyone – not even towards those who may have disrespected him.
His love for Bahrain was immense as he spent nearly 50 years here, giving the best of his energy in the service of others.
As a medical officer at Salmaniya Medical Complex, Dr Cheriyan helped countless people who came to him with illness and medical concerns. He provided proper guidance and directed them to the right treatment. Even during his busy schedule and overnight duties, he was always ready to be at everyone’s side whenever needed – always considerate and compassionate.
Under his chairmanship, the Indian School went through many positive transformations – the shift system was stopped, the primary section moved to a new campus, and school fairs were started for the welfare of staff and students.
He also initiated a computer literacy programme – an important and brave step forward that opened up new opportunities for younger generations.
Dr Cheriyan was always at the forefront of social service in Bahrain. Whenever anyone reached out to him, he helped with advice and encouragement.
He was also the chief guest at my first book release function. He joined us and remained until the end of the session. Despite his tight schedule, he stayed in constant touch with me.
It is difficult to believe that Dr Cheriyan has left us. It is quite rare to find someone who dedicated his entire life to the public, with kindness, integrity and care.
