The future of Bahraini women in the transport sector is promising, supported by their proven capabilities and excellence, as well as the continued expansion of policies promoting equal opportunities, a Supreme Council for Women (SCW) official said yesterday.
Najla Al Shirawi affirmed that investing in women’s talent will enhance the sector’s competitiveness and contribute to achieving the objectives of the Bahrain Economic Vision 2030.
She underscored the importance of encouraging young women to pursue studies related to transport and logistics by raising awareness of career opportunities, providing career guidance and counselling services, and facilitating engagement with successful female role models in the field.
Ms Al Shirawi was participating in a panel discussion, titled ‘Advancing the Role of Women Entrepreneurs in Land Transport’, organised by the Transportation and Telecommunications Ministry in co-operation with the Bahrain Chamber.
The event brought together officials, representatives of the public and private sectors, women entrepreneurs and stakeholders from the transport and logistics sectors.
During the session, Ms Al Shirawi presented a working paper highlighting the SCW’s commitment to strengthening the economic participation of Bahraini women.
She outlined a range of initiatives launched by the SCW under the patronage of Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, wife of His Majesty King Hamad and SCW president, to support women across various sectors and enhance their access to leadership and decision-making positions.
She reviewed several SCW initiatives, including the Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka Bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa Award for the Advancement of Bahraini Women, the Imtiaz initiative for young Bahraini women entrepreneurs, and the Riyadat Bahraini Women Development Portfolio for Commercial Activity, which provides concessional financing for small and medium-sized enterprises.
She also highlighted the SCW’s Women in Information and Communication Technology Committee, which supports women’s participation in sectors linked to the digital economy.
Ms Al Shirawi also discussed policies aimed at empowering women in emerging economic sectors and explored future opportunities to strengthen their presence in the transport and logistics industries.
