MOTORSPORT – Bahraini-British motor racing team 2 Seas Motorsport enjoyed an incredible double podium yesterday in the second sprint race of round five in the 2026 GT World Challenge (GTWC) Europe, held at Misano World Circuit in Italy.
2 Seas’ number three Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo – driven by Andorran-French Jules Gounon and Spaniard Dani Juncadella and operated by 2 Seas in collaboration with Team Verstappen Racing, owned by four-time Formula One world champion Max Verstappen – finished second overall and just missed out on the victory by a mere 2.977 seconds.
Meanwhile, their all-British teammates of Charles Dawson and Kiern Jewiss, driving 2 Seas’ number 222 Mercedes-AMG, took third place amongst the Bronze category runners while finishing 31st overall.
Both cars started yesterday’s event on pole in their respective classes.
Gounon and Juncadella completed 38 laps in the sprint and crossed the line not far behind winners Charles Weerts and Kelvin van der Linde of Team WRT, driving their number 32 BMW M4 GT3 Evo.
Also climbing the overall podium in third were Lucas Auer and Maro Engel of Winward Racing in their number 48 Mercedes-AMG.
All three top-placers are competing in the GTWC Europe’s Pro category.
Finishing ahead of 2 Seas in the Bronze fleet were winners in class Marvin Dienst and Rinat Salikhov of Winward, driving their number 87 Mercedes-AMG, and runners-up Eddie Cheever and Peter Dempsey of Ziggo Sport Tempesta Racing, who were behind the wheel of their number 93 Porsche 911 GT3 R (992) Evo.
2 Seas’ double podium yesterday was a vast improvement from their results in the weekend’s first sprint held late Saturday night.
Gounon and Juncadella were forced to retire after an incident at the start, while Dawson and Jewiss came close to a podium in class by going fifth in Bronze and 26th overall.
2 Seas, co-owned by Bahrain’s Shaikh Isa bin Abdulla bin Hamad Al Khalifa, are back in action in round six of the 2026 GTWC Europe, to be held in Magny-Cours, France, from July 31 to August 2, also as a sprint weekend.
