"It hurts, it hurts my soul," said Argentina coach Lionel Scaloni before walking out of his post-match press conference in tears following Argentina's loss in the World Cup final.
Scaloni delivered an emotional address after Argentina lost 1-0 to Spain in the final.
“Naturally, we would have liked to win, but ultimately I feel gratitude. That is the only word I have, along with sadness, of course," Scaloni said during the news conference. "We gave it our all."
Argentina became the first team in history not to register a single shot during the opening 90 minutes of a World Cup final, and only the third team since 1966 not to register a single shot on target. Statistically, all three teams to record this stat were Argentina sides, in 1990, 2014 and 2026.
