The first edition of the Unified Healthcare-Associated Infection Surveillance Manual was launched by the Government Hospitals as part of its commitment to enhancing the quality of healthcare in the kingdom.
The new guidelines aim to strengthen the infection prevention and control system, and reinforce the highest standards of patient safety through the standardisation of surveillance methodologies in line with international best practices and recognised standards.
Government Hospitals Quality and Risk Management Department head Dr Onas Mahmood stated that the manual’s launch represents a strategic step towards standardising practices and improving data quality.
“It will support evidence-based decision-making and contribute to the advancement of infection prevention and control systems.
“The manual serves as a unified scientific and operational reference, bringing together the policies, methodologies and procedures for healthcare-associated infection surveillance,” said Dr Mahmood.
“It covers every stage of the surveillance process, from data collection, documentation, analysis and interpretation, through to the calculation and measurement of performance indicators, and their comparison against internationally recognised benchmarks and standards.
“This will help standardise surveillance procedures across the various hospitals and healthcare facilities under the Government Hospitals.
“It will also enhance the quality and accuracy of data as well as support evidence-based decision-making, ultimately contributing to improved healthcare service quality and enhanced patient safety.”
