The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the State of Kuwait summoned Iranian Ambassador to Kuwait Mohammad Totonchi and handed him a formal note of protest over Iran's attack on the Kuwaiti tanker Keifan while it was transiting the Strait of Hormuz, which injured several crew members.
Ambassador Hamad Al Mashaan, Deputy Foreign Minister, said the attack came amid Iran's continuing aggression against Kuwait, as well as inflammatory and provocative statements issued by the Iranian side, the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) reported.
He stressed that the attack constitutes a flagrant violation of Kuwait's sovereignty, territorial integrity, and national interests, as well as a threat to the security and freedom of international navigation. He added that it also breaches international law, the Charter of the United Nations, and UN Security Council Resolution 2817 (2026).
Al Mashaan renewed Kuwait's call on Iran to immediately halt its unlawful attacks, stressing that Kuwait reserves the right to take the necessary measures and holds Iran fully responsible for the attack and its continued aggression against the State of Kuwait.
