I refer to the news (GDN, July 23) regarding municipal councillors’ proposal to increase the smart card fee for expats. I don’t understand why these councillors are always targeting expats, proposing an increase in ID fee, work permit fee and a reduction in driving licence period, etc.
If the ID card fee increases, it would directly affect the employer who pays on behalf of the employees.
Their overhead expenses will multiply. At the same time, the replacement fee for lost or damaged cards for locals will be reduced. What is the use of this? You take money from expats, and want to utilise for non-economic purposes.
