An entry and exit point on Jamal Al Din Al Afghani Avenue in Muharraq has been closed as part of ongoing works on the Al Saqr Intersection project leading to Bahrain International Airport, with motorists urged to plan their journeys in advance.
Muharraq Municipal Council member Abdulqader Al Said said on social media that an inspection was recently conducted to ensure the project is progressing smoothly.
“We would like to inform the public that the entry and exit on Jamal Al Din Al Afghani Avenue, near Airport Avenue and Oasis Mall, has been closed as part of ongoing road works,” he said.

“This is part of the Al Saqr Intersection project, which will provide direct access to Bahrain International Airport.
“Motorists are urged to follow road signs and instructions issued by the authorities to ensure their safety and help the project progress smoothly and be completed as quickly as possible.”
The Al Saqr Intersection (Falcon Intersection) is undergoing a major BD26 million upgrade by the Works Ministry to improve traffic flow to and from the airport.
The project includes the construction of a free left-turn bridge for motorists travelling southbound on Khalifa Al Kabeer Highway and heading north towards the airport.
It also involves the widening and rehabilitation of sections of Arad Highway and Khalifa Al Kabeer Highway, with traffic throughput expected to increase from 5,250 vehicles per hour to around 16,000 vehicles per hour.
Now nearing 47 per cent completion, bridge decking works are actively underway.
In addition, the existing marine crossing on Arad Highway is being reconstructed, while modern stormwater drainage systems and landscaping works are being incorporated as part of the upgrade.
The GDN reported in June that motorists heading to the airport can look forward to smoother journeys in the coming months, as the kingdom’s ambitious airport roads development project reached a key construction milestone.
During a site inspection, Works Minister Ibrahim Al Hawaj announced that the third phase of the project was nearing the halfway mark.
He said the development forms part of Bahrain’s long-term infrastructure strategy aimed at supporting rapid urban growth and enhancing access to the airport and surrounding economic zones.
The update comes amid growing municipal focus on infrastructure in Muharraq, following recent discussions at the Muharraq Municipal Council on the future of the iconic Falcon Monument and wider concerns over traffic congestion along key gateway routes into the governorate.
