TRIATHLON – Bahrain Victorious 13 superstar Georgia Taylor-Brown from Britain raced her way onto the podium at T100 Vancouver, securing third place in the hotly contested event that featured a two-kilometre swim, an 80km bike ride, and an 18km run.
Fresh from a training camp in nearby Victoria, the multiple-Olympic medallist and world champion lined up for the first women-only T100 professional race at Locarno Beach, facing a deep field that brought together some of the leading names from both the T100 and World Triathlon Championship Series (WTCS).
Emerging from the swim in eighth, just over 40 seconds behind the leader, Taylor-Brown pushed the pace across the 80km bike leg to move up one position heading into the bike-to-run transition.
From there, she found another gear. Producing one of the strongest runs of the day, Taylor-Brown steadily picked off competitors to move through the field and secure the final place on the podium behind Switzerland’s Julie Derron and fellow Briton Kate Waugh.
Taylor-Brown clocked an overall mark of three hours 36 minutes 27 seconds, while registering swim-bike-run splits of 24:42, 2:03:18, and 1:06:08.
Derron won in 3:33:26, while Waugh was the runner-up in 3:35:06.
The result followed Taylor-Brown’s breakthrough T100 victory in Spain in May and it provided further evidence of her growing strength over the 100km distance.
“I would like to win again because it’s a nice feeling to know that everything’s going well, but I’m really happy with this performance today,” Taylor-Brown said post-race.
“The run was the best part. There’s still quite a lot to work on.”
Next up, Bahrain Victorious 13 athletes return to WTCS action in Weihai, China on August 29.
