BASKETBALL – Clutch free-throws by Husain Al Bannai and Ahmed Adel helped Samaheej escape with a come-from-behind 76-74 victory in overtime against Isa Town last night in the 2026-27 Bahrain Basketball Association (BBA) Cup, played at the BBA Arena in Um Al Hassam Sports Complex.
The game remained deadlocked at 70-apiece at the end of regulation.
Samaheej then fell behind by four after Husain Faraj scored on a lay-up for Isa Town with just under three minutes to play in the extra session.
But the victors roared back to tie the proceedings with successive baskets from Sayed Ali Mahmood, and then a split from the charity stripe by Al Bannai with just over a minute to play gave Samaheej back the advantage.
Adel later pegged the final score with the second of two free-throws and only six seconds to play.
Faraj had a chance to win the game for Isa Town, but his three-point attempt missed at the buzzer.
Mahmood and Basel Adel were Samaheej’s top performers, finishing with 22 and 21 points, respectively.
Faraj paced Isa Town with 16 in the loss while skipper Jehad Ahmed chipped in with 14.
The result earned Samaheej their second straight triumph to begin the BBA Cup, which is the first competition of the 2026-27 national basketball season.
Tournament action continues today with Nuwaidrat playing Al Hala at 6pm followed by Al Ahli taking on Muharraq at 8pm, both at the BBA Arena.
