A revamped neighbourhood park in Hamad Town has reopened to the public following a major facelift providing improved safety, upgraded recreational facilities and stronger security.
The park, located in Block 1205, has undergone comprehensive maintenance and rehabilitation works, including the installation of security cameras and the provision of a permanent security guard.
Northern Municipal Council member and area councillor Abdulla Al Qobaisi welcomed the reopening, describing the improvements as an important step towards creating a safer and more attractive public space for residents. “This is no longer simply a park that has undergone routine maintenance. It has been given a comprehensive new lease of life, with safety and the wellbeing of families placed at the heart of the improvements,” Mr Al Qobaisi said.
He praised the Northern Municipality and its executive body for responding quickly to the council’s recommendations and residents’ needs.
The rehabilitation included extensive maintenance of the sports playground and its external fencing, as well as the repair and upgrading of children’s play equipment to ensure it is safe for youngsters.
A permanent security guard has also been assigned to the park, with the guard’s room repaired and prepared for use.
Modern surveillance cameras have been installed throughout the site, while new guidance and awareness signs have been placed around the park to encourage visitors to use the facilities responsibly and to help protect the upgraded amenities.
Mr Al Qobaisi said the security measures were particularly important in ensuring that the park remains a safe family destination beyond the initial reopening.
“Families should be able to bring their children here, enjoy the playgrounds and sports facilities and feel reassured that the site is being monitored and protected,” he said. “The investment in security is also an investment in the long-term sustainability of the park.
‘We want these improvements to remain in place and benefit residents for years to come.”
Another highlight is the completion of maintenance works at the commercial shop located within the park.
Mr Al Qobaisi said preparations were now under way to present the outlet to the council’s Investment Committee, paving the way for its operation as an income-generating facility that could provide additional services to park visitors and families living nearby.
He said activating the commercial facility would complement the recreational improvements and help make the park a more complete community destination.
The councillor also urged residents and visitors to play their part in protecting the renewed facilities.
“The municipality can repair, upgrade and secure the park but its long-term success ultimately depends on the community. We appeal to residents, families and children to look after the equipment, keep the park clean and respect the facilities,” Mr Al Qobaisi said.
He stressed that he would continue working with the Northern Municipality’s executive body to monitor the needs of parks and public facilities across constituency nine in particular and the Northern Governorate in general.
“The reopening of this park demonstrates what can be achieved when the municipal council and executive authorities work together. Our focus now is to build on this success and ensure that other facilities receive the attention they need,” he added.
