A holiday in Alanya, Türkiye, ended in tragedy when 39-year-old Arif Erman dived headfirst into water that was only 50cm deep.
CCTV footage captured Erman, a father of three from Sapanca, running past safety ropes and diving from a hotel pier into the shallow sea. He reportedly struck the seabed, suffering a fatal neck fracture.
Despite immediate rescue efforts by a lifeguard and emergency paramedics who rushed him to a nearby hospital, doctors were unable to save him.
Local authorities noted that warning signs and barriers prohibiting diving were present on the pier due to low water levels.
An official investigation into the incident is underway.
