APM Terminals Bahrain, the operator of Khalifa Bin Salman Port (KBSP), has welcomed KBSP being named ‘Sustainable Institution’ at the Gulf Green Mobility Forum 2026 in Salalah, Oman.
The company commended the Transportation and Telecommunications Ministry for establishing a supportive regulatory framework that drives green mobility and public-private sector collaboration.
The recognition stems primarily from a BD3.8 million solar initiative featuring 26,960 panels across 71,000 square metres of warehouse rooftops. Delivering an 11.4 megawatt capacity, the system generates 18 gigawatt-hours annually to fully power port operations, cutting the terminal’s carbon footprint by 71 per cent in 2025.
“We are delighted and honoured to witness this milestone as Khalifa Bin Salman Port receives the ‘Sustainable Institution’ award at the GCC level,” said APM Terminals Bahrain managing director Matthew Luckhurst.
“This recognition reflects the fruit of our commitment to reducing our environmental impact, made possible through our strategic partnership with the Transportation and Telecommunications Ministry.”
The initiative forms part of APM Terminals’ broader strategy to electrify port equipment and achieve net-zero emissions by 2040, directly backing Bahrain’s national carbon neutrality goals.
