Kuwait has amended its Foreigners’ Residency Law to allow individuals whose Kuwaiti citizenship was revoked to obtain residency permits for up to 10 years.
Under the newly added Article 7 bis of the Residency Law, individuals whose Kuwaiti citizenship was withdrawn, as well as those who previously acquired citizenship through dependency, may be granted a regular residency permit for up to 10 years.
The provision applies to those who have subsequently returned to their original foreign nationality or acquired another nationality.
Kuwait's General Department of Residency Affairs will determine the conditions under which holders of this residency permit may be permitted to work in the country.
Individuals granted residency under Article 7 bis are exempt from the standard six-month absence rule, which limits how long permit holders can remain outside the country. They are also exempt from paying annual residency fees.
A dependant residence fee of KD10 will apply for immediate family members, including spouses, parents, and children. All other relatives will be subject to a KD300 family residence fee.
