The Bahrain Chamber has welcomed the decision to allow licensed taxis from Bahrain and Saudi Arabia to transport passengers across the King Fahad Causeway, describing it as an important step towards strengthening the transportation system and land connectivity between the two countries.
Chamber chairman Nabeel Kanoo said the move would provide a flexible additional transport option and have a positive impact on the movement of people, businesses and related economic activities.
He noted that the decision would diversify transportation options and facilitate trade, tourism, services and investment, while enhancing the competitiveness of the business environment through more seamless travel options.
“The King Fahad Causeway is a vital economic artery for Bahrain and one of its most important land crossings,” said Mr Kanoo.
“Therefore, developing services linked to cross-border traffic will positively impact economic activity, particularly in sectors most closely linked to visitor movement, including tourism, hospitality, retail, restaurants, exhibitions, events, transportation and services.”
The GDN reported the Transportation and Telecommunications Ministry’s announcement that taxis would be allowed to transport passengers across the King Fahd Causeway from yesterday.
Only officially licensed taxis will be allowed to cross the causeway, and vehicles must comply with approved technical requirements.
They must be no more than five years old and meet the safety and quality standards applied in Saudi Arabia.
