A man in Abu Dhabi has been awarded AED81,000 (approx. BD8,320) in compensation after discovering his wife inside another man’s vehicle, which led to a violent altercation.
The claimant, an Asian national, told the Abu Dhabi Family, Civil and Administrative Claims Court that the defendant assaulted him and caused physical injuries during the confrontation.
In a prior ruling, a criminal court found the defendant guilty of assault and committing an act that violates public morals under UAE law.
The criminal court sentenced the defendant to two months in prison, alongside fines of AED10,000 (approx. BD1,027) for assault and AED20,000 (approx. BD2,054) for the morality violation.
Following the criminal conviction, the civil court ordered the defendant to pay the husband AED51,000 (approx. BD5,240) for material and moral damages, bringing the total compensation to AED81,000.
The court ruled that the husband had incurred medical expenses and suffered physical pain, emotional distress, and reputational harm, adding that the defendant’s conduct disrespected marital bonds and social customs, contributing to the breakdown of the marriage.
