Foreign Minister Dr Abdullatif Al Zayani held a telephone call with his Saudi counterpart Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud. They reviewed the longstanding relations between the two countries and their people, their continued growth across various domains, and ways to strengthen them in a manner that serves their common interests and objectives.
Both sides discussed the latest developments in the region and the diplomatic efforts being made to de-escalate tensions, as well as efforts to ensure freedom of maritime navigation in the Strait of Hormuz and other vital waterways, in a manner that enhances security, stability and sustainable peace in the region.
• Dr Al Zayani also received a telephone call from Britain’s Minister of State for the Middle East and North Africa at the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office Stephen Doughty.
He congratulated Mr Doughty on assuming his new position, noting the longstanding and growing close friendship between the two countries, and expressing his keenness to strengthen co-operation, wishing him success.
Mr Doughty expressed the UK’s solidarity with Bahrain in the wake of the reprehensible Iranian attacks and its support for all measures taken by Bahrain to safeguard its sovereignty, security and stability.
The ministers reviewed the latest regional developments, the repercussions of the continued Iranian attacks against Bahrain and regional countries, the closure of the Strait of Hormuz to maritime navigation, its impact on energy and food supplies and international trade, and continued co-ordination and consultation during Bahrain’s membership of the United Nations Security Council.
