Parliament Speaker Ahmed Al Musallam visited the historic Manama Municipality, and reviewed the rehabilitation works.
Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture Minister Wael Al Mubarak and Municipal Affairs Under-Secretary Shaikh Mohammed bin Ahmed Al Khalifa were present.
The rehabilitation work was carried out in implementation of the royal directives of His Majesty King Hamad to preserve the historical and cultural identity of Bahrain’s buildings and cities, and the directives of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, to preserve the building’s historical character and cultural identity.
The Speaker reviewed the rehabilitation works, including efforts to preserve its historical character and highlight its original architectural features, enhancing its status as one of the landmarks associated with the history of municipal work and urban development in Bahrain.
He also toured the exhibition showcasing documents, artefacts and archival materials, which document the stages of development of municipal work and services, and the expansion and progress they have witnessed over the past decades.
Mr Al Musallam affirmed that the directives reflect the high level of attention given to national landmarks that document the kingdom’s institutional and development journey. He emphasised the importance of preserving this national heritage and introducing current and future generations to it, as well as to the continuous development of municipal services that have contributed to serving the community and supporting the development process.
Mr Al Mubarak said that the visit embodies the shared interest in preserving the national memory and highlighting the significant milestones in Bahrain’s municipal history, which, over more than a century, have formed a key pillar of urban development and community service.
In December 2025, HRH the Crown Prince and Prime Minister inaugurated the Manama Municipality building following its rehabilitation. The building was opened in 1962 by the late Amir HH Shaikh Isa bin Salman Al Khalifa.
