A single drop of blood can mean a second chance for someone fighting for life – a message brought to life yesterday as A’ali’s annual blood donation campaign marked its 15th edition.
Held under the poignant slogan ‘Your Drop ... Their Heartbeat’, the Prophet Mohammed Blood Donation Campaign attracted 234 registrations at Haji Hassan Al A’ali Ma’atam, with 155 donors successfully giving blood.
The remaining 79 registered participants were unable to donate after medical screening found that they did not meet the required health criteria.
The campaign, organised by A’ali Social Charity Society, was held yesterday and brought together donors, volunteers, medical teams and community organisations in another display of Bahrain’s strong culture of giving.
Donors aged between 18 and 65 took part, with the campaign continuing a tradition that has now spanned 15 editions.
The official opening was attended by Bahrain Medical Society (BMS) president Dr Amer Al Derazi, along with community figures, dignitaries and representatives of civil society organisations.
The initiative was jointly organised by A’ali Social Charity Society, A’ali Co-operative Consumer Society and Bahrain Sickle Cell Patients Care Society, in partnership with Government Hospitals and Primary Healthcare Centres, represented by A’ali Health Centre.
A number of community and commercial organisations also supported the campaign, while medical personnel, organisers and volunteers worked throughout the day to facilitate the donation process.
A’ali Social Charity Society chairman Aqeel Al A’ali said reaching the 15th edition reflected the campaign’s continuity and the deep-rooted values of solidarity and voluntary service in the community.
He praised the donors for their response, as well as the medical teams, volunteers and all organising, partnering and supporting bodies whose efforts helped sustain the campaign over the years.
Campaign chairman and A’ali Social Charity Society vice-chairman Hussain Al A’ali said the milestone demonstrated the sustainability of the humanitarian initiative and the ability of different organisations and volunteers to work together for a common cause.
He said this year’s slogan captured the essence of the campaign and highlighted the vital role blood donation plays in supporting patients and helping save lives.
The organisers concluded the campaign by thanking the donors, volunteers, medical teams and all participating and supporting organisations, as well as the venue’s caretakers for hosting the event and providing the facilities needed for its success.
